Samuel Eugene “Sam” Beasley, 88, husband of Peggy Ellis Beasley for 66 years, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at his home after a long illness. He was born November 10, 1934 in Tyrone, Kentucky, the youngest child of the late Chesley Hade and Rosetta Fint Beasley.
Sam was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a gunner’s mate on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Valley Forge, was a retired truck driver for Holland Express, and member of Teamsters Union. He was a member of Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church and the Anderson County Sportsman’s Club. Sam was an avid hunter and fisherman (He was once proclaimed The World’s Fastest Turtle Cleaner), raised champion coon dogs, and he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and friends, singing and playing guitar, boating, motorcycle riding, listening to classic country music, and watching the Kentucky Wildcats.
In addition to his parents, Sam was predeceased by his brothers Raymond, Carl, Whitt, Jack, James, Allen and Charles Beasley, and sisters, Pauline Peyton, Bernice Cox, Cornelia Clark, Jessie Mae Murphy, Edna Murphy and Lola Beasley.
Along with his wife of 66 years, Sam is also survived by his daughters Charlene (George) Hanks of Lawrenceburg, and Rhonda (James) Hatch of Petersburg, Tennessee; grandsons Ryan Hanks, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Cory (Michelle) Hanks, of Lawrenceburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be his two grandsons, Ryan and Cory Hanks, Tom Swartz, Dwayne Ellis and nephews, John P. Beasley and Wesley Peyton. Honorary bearers are Leland Boatman, his caregiver Rena’ Ritchie, and his hospice nurse Bobbi Lynn Durr, both of Frankfort, Myron Mitchell, Bobby Flora, and Freddy Carter.
