Sadie Elizabeth Cox Brown, 101, of Lawrenceburg, widow of Ray Thomas Brown, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington.
She was born in Anderson County to the late William Thomas and Effie Wilson Cox. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church where she formerly taught 3rd grades Sunday School. She was a graduate of Kavanaugh High School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a retired teacher who taught 3rd and 4th grades throughout Anderson County for almost 23 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, watching sports, and reading her Bible and daily devotional.
Mrs. Brown is survived by two daughters, Jane (Bertram) Wells, Lexington and Lydia (Royce) Carter, Bardstown; three grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Wells, Cincinnati; Jacob (Alexa) Carter, Danville; Perry Wells, Lexington and her fiancé, Jarrod Plank, of Morehead; granddaughter-in-law, Meagan Wells, Cincinnati; six great-grandchildren, Emory Wells, Ramsey Wells, Benson Wells, Blaire Wells, Avery Wells and Athena Carter; two special nieces, Mecia Crutcher and Christy (Steve) Burgin, both of Lawrenceburg.
Along with her spouse and parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Alexander Wells; sister, Eleanor Gash; niece, Cheri Carlton; and nephew, Stewart Gash.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Gash Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Casket bearers will be Royce Carter, Jacob Carter, Bertram Wells, Joseph Wells, Jarrod Plank, Will Carlton, Graham Carlton, and Steve Burgin. Honorary bearers will be Emory Wells, Ramsey Wells, Blaire Wells, Benson Wells, Avery Wells, and Athena Carter.
