Robert James Fitzgerald, age 70, husband for 16 years to Patricia Swiney Belcher Fitzgerald, of Sharpsburg, Kentucky, died Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Robert was born in Spencer County to the late Earl Fitzgerald and Jenny Mae Travis. He was a 1970 graduate of Shelby County High School; veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Vietnam War; member of Owingsville Church of Christ; KY Colonel; Boy Scout Leader of America Leader; worked with Hospice Care for numerous years; warehouse attendant for The Food Warehouse for over 20 years; and later worked as a line worker for Catalent Pharma Solutions.
Along with his wife he is survived by two sons, Edwin (Sarah) Thompson, Lexington, and Michael (Alicia) Brown, Berea; daughter, Bonita Ybarra; step-son, John Matthew (Lorene) Belcher, both of Lexington; six grandchildren; and sister, Piccola Ann Smith, of Corbin.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Gandee; brother, Joseph Earl Fitzgerald; and sister, Rosie Ybarra.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at the Owingsville Church of Christ at a later date. A burial will follow at Clarmont Memorial Gardens in Winchester.
