Onita Ruth Thompson Sanford, 96, of Lawrenceburg, widow of George Lawrence Sanford, died Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at her residence.
Mrs. Sanford was born in Anderson County to the late Jesse C. and Susan Emily Caldwell Thompson. She was a graduate of Salvisa High School; homemaker; and member of First Baptist Church. She used to spend many days farming, as well as doing seasonal work for the Department of Revenue.
Onita is survived by her son, Jesse (Verlinda) Sanford, Salvisa; daughter, Jan (Steven) Childers, Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren, Courtney (Dustin) Flannery, Versailles, Lauren (Zach) Roe, Columbia, South Carolina, Kenton (Ali) Devine, Lexington, and Emily Devine, Georgetown; three great-grandchildren, Dade and Caylee Flannery, Versailles, K.C. Fassas, Lexington; and nephew, George Springate, Lawrenceburg.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vernell Devine; sister, Vernett Springate; and brother-in-law, Cotton Springate.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2021 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation 11-1 p.m. Monday prior to service.
Pall bearers will be Ryan Springate, Kenton Devine, David Devine, Dustin Flannery, Zach Roe, and Steven Childers. Her great-grandson, Dade Flannery, will be an honorary bearer.
