Kenneth Phillips Obituary

          Kenneth Carl Phillips, age 76, of Lawrenceburg, husband of Rita Hutton Phillips for 54+ years, died on Wednesday, January, 18, 2023, at his residence of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson Disease.

 

          He was born on July 2, 1946 the only child of the late Lister Carl Phillips and Martha Drury Phillips. He lived his childhood in McBrayer and Stringtown. He attended Sand Spring School and graduated from Anderson High School in 1964. He attended Georgetown College and graduated in May 1968, with a degree in Business Administration.

 

          He accepted a position with the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He spent time at Fort Knox, KY, Fort Holabird, MA, and Fort Hood, TX, before leaving for a year in Vietnam. While there, Ken worked in military intelligence with the First Infantry Division in La Khe and with the 7th Psychological Operation Battalion in Da Nang.

 

          After returning from the service, Ken resumed work with the federal government in Frankfort, Louisville and Lexington, retiring in 2005 as Area Supervisor of the Lexington Office.

 

          In addition to his wife Rita, he is survived by two sons, Jason Phillips, Lawrenceburg and Ben Phillips (wife Erin) and grandson, Matthew Phillips, of Nicholasville; special nieces and nephew, Vickie Dyer (husband Brian), Burksville, Sara Lindsey (husband Chris), Danville and Shawn Hutton (wife Katie), Lawrenceburg; and sister-in-law, Pam Hutton.

 

          Ken was a lifelong member at Sand Spring Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class, usher co-captain, greeter and counter.

 

          He served 50+ years in the Lawrenceburg Lions Club, serving in various local, district and state levels. He was a Finis E. Davis Fellow.

 

          Visitation will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Gash Memorial Chapel from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service.

 

          Funeral services will be Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Gash Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Mike Hamrick and Ellery Milburn officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery with full military rites.

 

          Casket bearers will be David Perry, Gary Cardwell, Bobby Russell, Doug Hanks, Rick Davis, Brian Dyer, Shawn Hutton, Chris Lindsey and Robert Bicknell.

 

          Honorary bearers will be member of the Lawrenceburg Lions Club, Larry Taylor, Daryl Eckles and Ed Taylor.

 

          Memorial contributions are suggested to Sand Spring Baptist Church Building Fund, 1616 Harrodsburg Rd, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342 or Alzheimer’s Association, 2808 Palumbo Dr. #205, Lexington, KY.
