George Lawrence Sanford, age 94, husband for 75 years to Onita Ruth Thompson Sanford, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, May 16, 2020 at his residence.
Mr. Sanford was born in Mercer County to the late Taylor and Gertrude Baxter Sanford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served in WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church. He loved to hunt, fish, and watch horse racing.
Along with his wife he is survived by his son, Jesse (Verlinda) Sanford; daughter, Jan (Steven) Childers, both of Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren, Courtney (Dustin) Flannery, Versailles, Lauren (Zach) Roe, Columbia, South Carolina, Kenton (Allison) Devine, Lexington, and Emily Devine, Georgetown; great-grandchildren, Dade and Caylee Flannery, Versailles, and K.C. Fassas, Lexington; brother, Lonnie (Linda) Sanford; and a very special nephew, George Springate, both of Lawrenceburg.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vernell Devine.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2020 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. till time of service Thursday.
To abide by Kentucky's regulations set forth by the Commonwealth, the funeral home can have up to 33% occupancy, everyone who attends is asked to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Thank you for your patience in these difficult times for our families.
Honorary bearers will be Clarence Scott, Roy Tony, George Dye, David Devine, Scott Hollingsworth, Kristen and Terry Kinney.
