Della Stinnett Obituary

Della Rose (Simpson) Stinnett, 88, loving wife for 59 years to the late Malcolm L. Stinnett, of Lawrenceburg died Friday, June 22, 2018 at Beacon Place Hospice Home in Greensboro, NC.

 

Della Rose was born March 1, 1930, in Peoria, IL, to Elmer and Gertrude (Gertie) Simpson. She had one older brother, the late Fred Simpson.

 

A 1949 graduate of Western Anderson High, Della went on to work 23 years for the Kentucky State Government. The highlight serving as Executive Assistant to Secretary of State Thelma Stovall from 1956-1973. She also served in the Governor’s office under Governor Louie B. Nunn.

 

Della was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceburg, KY. Earlier in her life, she grew up in a small country church where she taught Sunday School and was the church pianist for several years. She dearly loved her family, animals of all kinds, to read, crochet and draw.

 

She had one daughter Lori, and son-in-law, Bud Taylor, who lived for 19 years in Palm City, FL. Malcolm & Della moved to Palm City in 1998 to be close to them and their granddaughters, Lorin (now 21), Mallie (19), and Jamie (16). Upon Malcolm’s death in 2009, Della lived with Lori and her family in Palm City. In June of 2016, they all relocated to Greensboro, NC where they currently reside.

 

Della Rose is also survived by a niece, Bonnie Mae Chesser, of Waddy, KY, and her husband Gary, a nephew Mike Stinnett, of Lawrenceburg, KY, and his wife Frances, a niece Donna Felton, of Kettering, OH, and her husband Ross, and a nephew Robert Simpson of Springfield, MO.

 

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.  Visitation will be at Gash Memorial Chapel beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to services.
