Lela Katherine Chilton Jeffries, 96, of Lawrenceburg, widow of R.V. Jeffries, died Monday, September 2, 2019 at Heritage Hall Healthcare Center.
She was born on April 4, 1923 to the late Fred and Minnie Chilton. Katherine was a lifelong member at Claylick United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, member of the board, on the pastoral parish committee, active in WSCS and in the Nifty Fifty group. She worked as a homemaker for many years and also worked at Saffell Street Elementary and Anderson County Middle School in the cafeteria.
Ms. Jeffries is survived by two sons, Jim (Terry) Jeffries, Lawrenceburg and Don (Dottie) Jeffries, of Versailles; two grandchildren, Chad (Barbra) and Eric (Denise) Jeffries; 4 great-grandchildren, Logan (Elizabeth), Luke, Jackson, and Miles Jeffries; and one great-great grandchild, Sawyer Jeffries.
Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Horace Chilton, Melvin Chilton, Everett Chilton, Linwood Chilton, Allie Bell Coke, Elsie Raye Roark; and grandson, Todd Jeffries.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Lowell Langefeld and Pastor Charlie Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday.
Casket bearers will be Fred Coke, Thomas Coke, Bruce Coke, Paul Coke, Bobby Roark, and Harold Chilton. Honorary bearers will be Eric, Chad, Logan, Luke, Jackson, Miles, and Sawyer Jeffries, Tim and Kevin Thomas.
