Helen Marie Polk Smith, age 94, of Lawrenceburg, widow of James Lapsley Smith, Sr. died Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith was born in Warren, Ohio to the late Van Buren and Ida Mae Turley Polk. She was a member of Craig Chapel AME Church; retired from Wild Turkey; formerly worked in the flower shop at Wal-Mart and Texas Instruments in Versailles.
Helen is survived by eight children, Edward Smith and Sandra Maxberry, both of Lawrenceburg, James (Kathy) Smith, Jr. and Dedrea (Rod) McCoy, both of Frankfort, Ruth Walker, Lexington, Charles Smith, Springfield, Pamela (Anthony) Kniffley, North Carolina, and William Cunningham, San Diego, CA; four sisters, Ethel Thurman, Nellie (James) Harvey, and Altha Johnson, all of Lawrenceburg, and Marguerite Ross, Louisville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Cunningham; brother, John Dee Polk; sisters, Edith Russell, Jennie McKee, Alice Gill, Janie Mae Polk, and Mary Bee Burks.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Murphy officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Gash Memorial Chapel. A private burial will be at Camp Nelson Cemetery at a later date.
Casket bearers will be Craig Hudson, Rodney Gill, Dennis Russell, Chris Russell, Marvin Floyd, and Anthony Kniffley. Honorary bearers will be her grandsons and Curtis Major.
