Douglas Theodore “Ted” Monroe, 73, of Frankfort, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born in Washington D.C. to the late John M. and Ruby E. Monroe. He is a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War and retired from the Washington D.C. Government where he worked as an accountant. Ted enjoyed his sports especially the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, Maryland Terrapins, and his “adopted” Kentucky Wildcats. Not only did Ted love his sports, but also his four furry companions Bogey, Bailey, Buffy, and Bella.
Mr. Monroe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Novajean Brown Monroe, of Frankfort; sister, Rita (Ervin) Phillips, of Woodbridge, VA; two nephews, Eric (Shari) Phillips, Triangle, VA, Matt (Amanda) Phillips, Stafford, VA; two great-nephews, Cooper and Beau Phillips; and special cousin, Wanda Trent, of Elizabethtown.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 2, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Todd Lester and Bro. Jerry Montogomery officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-12 p.m. prior to the service.
Casket bearers will be Mark Toothaker, Eric Phillips, Matt Phillips, Steve Pulliam, Tim Howell, Charles Dingledine, Ervin Phillips, Darrell Trent, Allen Jackson, and Jeff Simmons.
